What this is
A political self-placement quiz for the presidential election of 25 October 2026. You answer 26 statements and 9 questions, and the result shows where your position sits against everyone else who has taken it, and against the positions of 2 public figures in Bulgarian politics.
Who makes it
The quiz is published by Bulgarians Online. It has no connection to any political party, candidate or campaign, and it does not campaign for or against anyone.
What it is not
Not an opinion poll. Respondents come to it themselves rather than being sampled, so the percentages describe the people who took the quiz, not Bulgarian voters. It is also not a recommendation of who to vote for.
How the statements were chosen
The statements cover the areas where a president has influence or a public voice: the economy and tax, the courts and the prosecutor’s office, foreign policy and defence, energy, and social values. Each statement is a single, specific proposal that you can agree or disagree with, and each belongs to exactly one axis.
The five axes
Every statement belongs to one of five axes: economic (state intervention and redistribution against free markets and low tax), Europe (pro-European and Atlantic alignment against national sovereignty), institutions and the rule of law, social values, and distrust of the established parties. The compass plots the first two, and the other three are shown as bars on your result.
How your position is calculated
Answers run from ‘strongly disagree’ (-2) to ‘strongly agree’ (+2). 9 of the 26 statements are worded the other way round, and their answers are reversed before scoring, so agreeing does not always push you the same way. Each axis score is the weighted average of your answers on that axis, shown on a scale from -100 to +100. ‘Neutral’ is preselected and counts as a neutral answer.
How we compare you with the figures
Each figure’s position on a statement is coded on the same five-point scale from their public statements and record, with a source for every position. Agreement is calculated only over the statements where the figure has a coded position: the closer your answers, the higher the percentage. A statement with no position on record is left out rather than treated as neutral, and the number of statements compared is always shown beside the result.
The aggregate picture
Everyone who completes the quiz is plotted on the aggregate compass. Squares with fewer than 5 respondents are hidden, and breakdowns in the report are withheld below 200 answers, so no individual can be picked out.

Every position attributed to a public figure is backed by a published source, linked from your result page. If you think we have a position wrong, write to hello@bulgarians-online.com: we check it, correct it where warranted, and record the change.
